You were sitting on the couch in your small apartment. A movie was playing in the background, and you tried to read your book, but you could not bring yourself to concentrate on the pages in front of you.
For a moment, you scrolled through your phone, but nothing caught your interest, so you paused to think of something to ease your boredom.
After a few minutes of thinking, you decided to get up and go out for a walk. You quickly walked to the dresser in your bedroom and put on a hoodie, then slipped into your sneakers, grabbed your keys, and left your apartment.
Outside, the sun was setting, so it was not completely dark, and the streetlights were not on yet, so it was the perfect time to go for a walk.
As you walked, you saw a few people, some of them were holding hands, others were walking with their dogs, it was always the same.
About fifteen minutes later, you decided it was time to go home because it was getting colder and darker. You had just started walking toward your apartment when you noticed a small white card on the ground.
You hesitated for a moment, debating whether to pick up the card or not. But in the end, you picked it up.
Your eyes widened the moment you looked at the card. It was a driver’s license, but that was not the thing that stunned you. It was whose card it was. The name Joseph Andrew Starkey was printed clearly across it, along with his date of birth and address.
After a moment of thinking about what to do, you decided to type the address into your phone. When you saw that his apartment was only a fifteen minute walk away, you tapped the Start navigation button and started walking.
Fifteen minutes later, you arrived at the apartment building and pressed the buzzer next to his name.
The intercom crackled. “Yeah?” a male voice said.
“Hey, I think I found your driver’s license,” you said.
There was a short pause. “Wait, what?” he said, slightly shocked, before adding, “Okay, come upstairs. Third floor.”
As you walked upstairs to the third floor, you felt a bit of excitement bubbling up inside you, but you kept a neutral expression on your face because you did not want him to notice.
Arriving on the third floor, Drew was already standing there, leaning against the doorframe, waiting for you.
“So, here is your driver’s license,” you said as you approached him, holding the card out.
“Thank you so much for bringing it back to me,” Drew said with a smile on his face.
“You’re welcome,” you responded as he took the card from you, his fingers brushing against yours. After a moment of awkward silence, you decided to say “Bye” and turned around.
“Wait,” Drew said, stopping you in your tracks.
Then you turned around once more and looked at him, waiting for him to continue. “I just finished making dinner. Do you want to come in?”
