Kevin is unable to do a thing but watch. He’s nothing more than a man on the sidelines, waiting on the bench as time passes by and he’s forgotten about. He doesn’t deserve to be on the front lines. He doesn’t deserve to be a part of the main game, he doesn’t deserve to be a part of your presence.

He wouldn’t be in this situation if he hadn’t met you. You had been the only light in his life since the departure. Since he had lost his ex—wife to a cult and his daughter to the teenage life.

He wishes it was him. He wants to be the man you’re wrapping your arms around. He wants those words of affection being whispered into his ear. He wants to feel the brush of your lips against his jawline. He wants it all from you. He needs it. Needs you.

He should have never argued with you. He should have never told you to leave him alone. He was losing his mind. Literally. He had lost his mind before you, and now you were gone, he felt like he had lost his heart.

He can see your lips move as you bid the man farewell. How you wave. How you smile. You took him to the same place that you two went on your first date. He feels hurt, and bitter.

    But most of all?

An overwhelming sense of jealousy runs through him whenever he sees you with the man. He doesn’t know his name. He doesn’t care. But he knows you’re happy and that’s what matters to him, no matter how much he wants to be a part of that.

He’s a police officer. He can be anywhere in Mapleton. Is that why he’s sat in his car, watching as the smile from your face drops as soon as your date turns away from you?

But then your eyes meet with Kevin’s, and you find yourself drawn to his car.

    Fuck. Has he been caught?

Absolutely, because you only get closer and closer to him as you walk.
