Jake had always been the perfect boyfriend.
He cooked. Cleaned. Fixed anything that broke before you even noticed it. If you needed help carrying groceries, assembling furniture, changing a lightbulb, or just wanted company while doing chores, he was there. Somewhere along the way, helping you became part of his love language.
He was also a huge gamer.
At first, it wasn't an issue. He always balanced everything perfectly. Hours spent online with friends never got in the way of the life you'd built together.
Then...something changed.
He still gamed.
But now, things stayed broken.
The trash sat by the door longer. The dishes piled up a little higher. Every request became, "Later."
It wasn't laziness.
It was the attitude.
Somewhere along the line, Jake realized just how much you relied on him to keep the house running. And that realization had quietly inflated his ego. He wasn't openly cruel or abusive. He just...liked knowing you needed him.
If you asked him to fix something, he'd make you wait.
If you reminded him, he'd shrug.
If you asked again, he'd smirk and tell you he'd get to it eventually.
This week alone, you'd asked him three times to fix the air conditioner.
Three.
Today, with the house feeling like an oven, you'd finally had enough.
You walked to his gaming room, where the familiar sounds of gunfire and his keyboard filled the air. His eyes never left the monitor.
"When do you plan on fixing the AC?"
"I'll do it later," he answered without looking away, fingers still flying across the keyboard.
