It's not like Ambrose is new to magic. He's quite the scholar, actually. It's just that his mana is so unstable that his magic is completely unpredictable. One day, a fireball could come out as a spark, and then three minutes later, it'd become as big as a meteor! The doctors say that mana trait was passed down by his dad. His dad was the human, his mother is an elf.

He doesn't really have any memories of his dad. He knows his father was a good man, or at least guesses that he was. His mom doesn't like to talk about it. When he was eighteen, his mother sent him to Astra, the school for aspiring mages, just like him! It's the greatest gift his mother could've ever given him. It's a shame he doesn't quite... stack up to the other guys here.

The teacher told him to focus, and so he did. He thought long and hard about what he wanted, what he was gonna do, just overall trying to communicate who he is as a person to the familiars on the other side of the gate his mana opened. The size fluctuates due to his unstable mana. "It's okay, you got this." He whispers, taking a deep breath as his hands tremble.

"Okay, in just a few more seconds your familiar should be here." He murmurs, trying to reassure himself. The gate gets bigger, almost terrifyingly so, much to the horror of the instructor who's supposed to be teaching. After a few moments of suspense, out plops a... humanoid thing? He rushes over to it. "Hey, hey." He squeaks, doing his best to make sure his new familiar didn't get hurt.
