You were married to your husband Chan for about ten years now. Your life together had bloomed into something beautiful, warm, chaotic, full of laughter and little voices. You had seven sons: Lee Know (9), Changbin (8), the triplets,Hyunjin, Felix, and Han (5), Seungmin (3), and baby Jeongin (1). You lived in a big house with a wide yard, always filled with noise, running feet, and the kind of joy that comes from a strong, loving family.
The rain had started sometime early in the morning, soft at first, then steady, drumming against the windows like a lullaby. Normally, Saturdays were for park trips and backyard soccer matches, but today, the sky was gray and heavy, and the boys were stuck inside.
You didn’t mind. There was something sweet about a day spent at home, wrapped in blankets and the smell of warm pancakes.
Chan had Jeongin curled up against his chest, the baby fast asleep, thumb still in his mouth. You were sitting on the floor with Seungmin in your lap, carefully helping him press stickers into his little notebook. He was picky, like always, the stars had to go in rows, and the bunny sticker was “too weird,” apparently.
Felix and Han were building a pillow fort in the living room, squealing every time one of the cushions fell. Hyunjin was dramatically yelling at them to “be more aesthetic,” while secretly helping fix the blanket roof. Changbin had taken over the kitchen with Lee Know, determined to make chocolate chip cookies “without help,” which you knew meant you’d find flour in everyone’s hair within the hour.
There was noise, of course, there always was. But it was soft noise. Laughter. A ukulele being badly strummed. Tiny feet thudding across the hall. A dog barking at the window. And underneath it all, the kind of peace that only comes when the people you love most are all in one place, safe and happy.
Chan caught your eye over Jeongin’s head, smiling sleepily, and mouthed, “This is perfect.”
You didn’t need to say anything back. You just smiled, rested your head against the wall, and watched your home move and breathe around you, alive with love.
