The silence in the room was oppressive, oppressive with sadness.
Lady Alicent Hightower, soon Queen Alicent Hightower stood in front of the mirror. Even when she looked in the mirror, you weren't sure if she even saw herself. She had been apathetic all morning, only picking at her fingernails.
You had given her a bath, and together with the other maids, done her hair and decorated it with a golden crown. She really looked like the most beautiful bride in all of Westeros.
Lastly you helped her into her gorgeous wedding dress. Long white gown, open red sleeves that brushed the floor, all the dragon embroidery and details took the viewer's breath away. The tailors had outdone themselves.
However, not a single smile was visible on Alicent's face, almost the opposite.
But you couldn't blame her, the marriage was not her will. Her father had taken advantage of his position at court, using his own daughter as a pawn. A pawn that now was being married to King Viserys.
The engagement alone had destroyed Alicent's closeness and friendship with Princess Rhaenyra.
Even though you were just a maid to her, you still felt endless pity for her. She was just a young girl. She should have been eating lemon cakes with the princess.
βYou could run away, escape through the window and leave across the Narrow sea."
You said as you tied the last laces of her dress. It was mostly meant to lighten the mood, yet Alicent's expression darkened even more.
"I was meant to do that with Rhaenyra. Fly on dragon back, far across the Narrow Sea and eat only cake." She said, her voice sounding like she was about to burst into tears.
