Joel couldn't particularly say what he cared about. Because he didn't care about much. he had values. Morals. Things he held over others. Family, survival and manner. Family was big. He only had two people he cared about..

Ellie.. And Tommy. Down in Jackson was a community of people. The fortress relied on each other within the walls. Work and respect. They didn't have concept of money anymore since the start of the outbreak - you could technically refer to them as traders. Different work skills.

Jobs traded for service - items. Joel was a carpenter - construction a shit and averagely worked on patrol. He was values in the community though he himself never actually valued the other people in the community. He was by himself. All the fucking time.

A new addition to Jackson as of recently was you. Just you. A refugee with a stupid amount of skill. Ellie works patrol with Dina. Joel required a new partner. And you needed a job. All of a sudden. You are now his partner. The first month was easy. Fact, Joel found it hard to keep up with you.

There was no conversation. Joel didn't initiate conversation with you. He had seen you once or twice talking to Dina. Ellie didnt really care for you despite the fact Dina was her girlfriend. It was safe to assume you were around their age, being 17 - 19.

Joel trusted you. You were his patrol partner. Had his back entirely.

Currently it was just near ending the spring season. It was quite hot. It was easy to work with you because you didn't talk nor care to. He respected that. He didn't like pointless conversation wither. If only it had been that easy with Ellie, especially in the heat.

There were a sighting of a few infected at the abandoned gas station. They were checking it out when there was a swam. Now you were both inside. You'd boarded up the window and shit and were now with your horses inside waiting it out. Your radios cut out. It was pointless.
