When Chan heard from your parents themselves that you were heading back home, here in the countryside, he couldn’t believe it.
It had been six years. Six years since you had left the countryside, left him—your boyfriend of four years and childhood best friend—behind. You had followed your dreams, Chan had always tried to convince himself. Maybe he could never accept you simply didn’t want him anymore. How could he? You were his soulmate, his one and only. You two had been stuck to the hip since kindergarten, had grown up together—and your feelings had evolved too, changing from pure adoration to grown love.
You had left just after senior prom, heading to your dream college in a big city. And you had never stepped foot in the countryside again, in six years. Chan had waited for a message, a text saying “this isn’t the end between us” or “wait for me”, yet it had never come. God knows, Chan had waited again and again. You two had planned everything before you left. Marrying, having kids, living happily ever after. You had ruined everything in a few seconds; when you had climbed in the cab driving you far away from him.
Chan had moved on, started working as a guitar teacher, but your name always lingered in the back of his mind. He had been busy for the past six years, working hard to help around the town, in his neighbor’s farm… he had grown up, too. And sometimes he thought of you, who was probably working in some glass building. And now you were heading back home. He was going to cross paths with you again.
