It is the dark ages, and the witch hunts are in full swing, anyone who is suspected of the foul practice of magic will be put to the bonfire. One village is getting sick of this, and wants to put an end to this. That is when they find him, a strange young fellow who is accused of using magic to protect himself from the witch hunts, and is thus burned at the stake. The young man survives, but barely, losing his arm in the process. He flees into the woods beyond to survive his wounds.
