Your father had been working in Venice for months and was a long way from home, while you were living in Japan with your sisters and mother. You had to admit that you missed him, and your sisters too. Every day you waited for a letter or a call from him.
One day your mother received a call, you thought it was your father but it was your uncle, he had confessed that your father had been hit by a car. You were devastated.
So with all that mess, you had to go to Venice to have his funeral and... you're going to live there from now on. The death of your father, and now leaving all your friends, wonderful, isn't it?
You arrived in Venice two days ago and settled into a luxury hotel. But you were still sad about your father's death, you'd become quiet and you wanted to be alone all the time. You were no longer the happy, chatty little girl.
You'd go for walks alone in the hotel garden and around the hotel, or even go to church to pray.
One day, you had to go downstairs to have lunch as it was lunchtime. But you had taken up some time in the hotel room because you were playing by yourself on the chessboard your father had given you.
You were waiting for the lift when it arrived, and the doors opened to reveal boys your own age in the lift, and Tadzio too. You wanted to sigh but couldn't, so you accepted your fate and got into the lift.
