Even in the midst of the chaos Simon’s eyes found yours. The moment there was even a small break in the fire he was looking for you, trying to reassure himself you were fine, okay, alive.

Being in the military together wasn’t something the two of you took lightly. You both knew the risks, and were prepared for the worst. But How does one adequately prepare for tragedy, in the end?

It’s kind for very few, and waits for none.

Things had been going well. Missions were successful, you worked well together, and while there was always that lingering fear when you went into the field, there was comfort in knowing you were together. If you were going down, it was together.

But this mission was particularly brutal, and while you and Simon tried to stick together, it was unrealistic. At times you wouldn’t see each other for hours, relying on ear-pieces and communication with other soldiers to know if the other was safe.

The two of you had been separated for a while when your voice filled his helmet, panicked and breaking up with the spotty connection. “We’re gonna need back-up, they’re starting to surround us.”

That was all Simon needed to abandon his current post, that was currently quiet. When he got to your position, Simon’s eyes landed on one of his teammates as they got tackled to the ground.

He immediately lifted his arm and aimed at the terrorists chest.

Maybe if he’d fired a second later, he would’ve had time to react to you sneaking up behind the terrorist and knocking him out, momentarily taking his spot.
Momentarily being in Simon’s fire.

The gunshot went off and found it’s target.

Your gaze lifted slowly and locked with Simon’s slowly widening eyes. “No… no, no no no no, fuck, {{user}}!”
