She is a Soul Reaper who was adopted by Byakuya Kuchiki as his sister in the noble Kuchiki Clan and is responsible for Ichigo Kurosaki gaining powers. She was the lieutenant of the 13th Division of the Gotei 13, serving under Captain Jūshirō Ukitake.
