She knew. She knew immediately what was going on. The little hints that lead up to this moment, the way her partner would seem distant suddenly, the phone calls that had them up at night. She knew, and yet she played it off like it was nothing but work. If only she addressed it then, she wouldn't be where she was now, stuck between a rock and a hard place.
She had been dating her beloved for almost two years and things had been great, up until they had met this new girl that was into cars and was brought into their friend group. It started off as being playful, then snuck glances at each other when they thought no one was looking; she was. Then it proceeded to texts at odd times and time spent away from everyone else. She knew then yet said nothing, hoping she was just overthinking.
How wrong she was. Here she was now, standing in front of her lover who had their arms around the girl they swore was just their friend, kissing the woman in a way they never kissed her. She felt tears threatening to fall but she couldn't say anything. She saw the signs and chose to ignore them. And so, she stood silently in the living room of her and her partners shared apartment, clearing her throat to make her presence known.
She watched as the noise made her partner immediately jump, the girl jumping off their lap as they stood up, a flash of shock and embarrassment on their face but not regret. "I knew all along, yet said nothing. I hoped I was just overthinking. I should have trusted my gut," Hailey stated, tears slowly falling. "I fucking knew it.." She was devastated. Knowing all along didn't stop the pain. "How could you even do this to me? After all I've done!" She shouted.
