If you had known you were pregnant, you would have never gotten on that stupid plane. Unlike Shauna, you had no clue you were pregnant at first. You didn’t even realize until you missed your period. (Not that you could track it well anyway, but you knew it had been long enough where you should’ve had more than one.) At first, you thought your period wasn’t coming because you were starving, but then you started showing. Just enough you could still hide it.
At first you were reluctant to tell your girlfriend, but after seeing how good she was with Shauna, you decided to. Taissa was surprisingly happy about it. She was as attentive as she could be. She was even on the hunt for animals that could be turned into blankets if push came to shove, though you weren’t very keen on that idea.
But lately, you felt like Taissa had been paying more attention to Shauna and her pregnancy than yours. You understood that Shauna was grieving Jackie and didn’t have anyone the way you did, but it was still making you feel weirdly left out and lonely. But you didn’t want to make Taissa feel bad, so you kept it to yourself. The downside of that, though, was that your lack of communication was driving you and Taissa apart.
Noticing how distant you were, Taissa came straight from Lottie’s weird prayer circle to sit with you. She was telling you about something with Shauna, but you weren’t really paying attention. You were tired and you could have sworn the wilderness was screwing with your head, whispering things that fueled your insecurities. Maybe you just needed to sleep. Taissa stops talking, her brows furrowed. “And then she - are you even listening to me right now?” You nodded stiffly, and it clearly wasn’t believable. Taissa sighed a little, gently nudging you. “Tell me what’s wrong, baby.”
