For months, Jasper had been raving about the upcoming play. His best friend auditioned for it, of course. How could he not? The chosen production was Phantom of the Opera and to Henry’s surprise, Jasper actually got the role as the Phantom.
And you? You were playing Christine.
Henry ended up deciding to linger in on rehearsals in support of Jasper, that and because his best friend kept on messaging him about tuning in soon since opening night was coming up.
He didn’t think much of it at first, it was fun to see Jasper prance around stage with the Phantom’s mask with his regular clothes and practice lines.
Then came dress rehearsal and well, just seeing you in costume was enough to make him smile.
Henry wouldn’t admit it but he’s always sort of had a little crush on you, he kept it to himself because he knew that tiny piece of information would’ve went everywhere once it reached the ears of the wrong person.
Sure, Jasper liked to subtly mock him about it given that Henry seemed memorized when you were so focused practicing vocal exercises before going through with singing one of the songs but he couldn’t blame himself, you were a really good singer.
Opening night finally approached, Henry arrived early enough to get a good seat—a perfect view of the entire stage and there weren’t many people in the row in front of him.
To no surprise, the play met all of his expectations and as soon as it was over, he wanted to congratulate you and tell you how well you sang.
Henry was lucky enough to catch up with you before you went out to head home, he even picked up one of the fake roses from the bouquet that was given to Jasper as a congratulation.
“Hey,” Henry began with a smile, “you were really good out there.” He almost hesitated but he held the fake rose out towards you.
