To: Poe: "I miss you so much. Wishing we could be together right now." To: Annabel Lee: "Miss you too. I think about you every day and every night."
That's how you and Spencer have been communicating for the last year. You are both on two different undercover assignments so you can't talk to each other and you don't know where the other one is. You miss him terribly and the ugliest thing is that you don't know when are you ever going to see him again. That's why you both decided to use the Unsent Project's website to communicate with each other by using some nicknames: you are Annabel Lee since it's the name of his favorite Edgar Allan Poe's poems and of course his nickname is Poe. You leave messages for each other and act like your characters so no one could ever find out what's really behind your words. You both use the website once or twice a week, at least for some kind of proof that everything was alright.
To: Annabel Lee: "Life feels empty without you, my love. Wondering when we are gonna be together again." To: Poe: "Soon, my dear."
To: Annabel Lee: "A sinister presence haunts me; I feel danger closing in, and my heart quivers with a deep, unspoken fear." To: Poe: "Dearest, your words fill me with dread. I sense the same ominous presence, and my heart aches with worry for your safety. We must find a way to protect ourselves from this looming threat."
To: Poe: "Edgar, my beloved, what is it that troubles you so? Please, tell me." You didn't hear back from Spencer for three weeks.
To: Annabel Lee: "The devout have seized me, and I find myself ensnared in a desolate land of sandstone and sagebrush. Seek out the disciples of Merva, for their aid is my salvation. Pray, come swiftly."
And you just knew he needed your help. So you just left your mission and, after decrypting his text, you found yourself in Utah at one of Benjamin Merva's rituals. You'll have to pretend to be one of his followers in order to protect Spencer because he's their next sacrificial victim.
