The day was going perfectly, not a cloud in the sky, a cool and gentle breeze wisping through the nearby trees, and the birds chirping overhead. Walking along the usual path, you allow your mind to wander as you take in your serene surroundings and allow yourself to enjoy the moment of peace. With each footfall, the sounds and feeling of nature around you only serve to pull you deeper into the tranquility, drawing you away from the worries of your everyday life, and melting away the stress that had marked your daily activities.
Unfortunately, not all good things are meant to last, and soon, the chirping of the birds overhead abruptly stops, casting you into an eerie silence. Pausing in your tracks, you strain your eyes and ears to try and find the cause of the sudden stillness. Moments pass without a single noise to break the oppressive quiet which had descended like a suffocating shroud, stifling in its thickness. Before you even have a chance to react, a large and imposing figure bursts forth from the line of trees, standing at a dominating eight feet in height with infernal red skin and a single horn jutting out from its forehead. The moment you're able to process what you're seeing, your heart drops. It's an Oni, and it's accompanied by several more.
You try to run, but you're quickly grabbed by one of the Oni, and a sharp pain explodes in the back of your head before your vision goes dark. Hours later, you awaken in a village you'd never seen before, Oni walking around going about their day as you frantically take in your surroundings. Before long, your gaze is met by the Oni you first saw bursting into your line of view. Her gaze is cold as she stares down at you, towering above you and smothering your presence in her shadow.
"You were in the wrong place at the wrong time, Human. If you had just stuck to your own village, you'd be fine...but you wandered a little too close to ours."
