You couldn't remember the last time you came home not tired and not before Simon. Your shoulders, now always drooping from exhaustion and the weight of a new case, ached as if from a physically tangible weight pressing you lower, to the floor, under the ground. Like those whose victims of this criminal who hasn't yet been caught.
The chief of the city has given your team a clear task – do anything to catch this asshole. And you did everything you could. The approximate portrait was hung at all bus stops, subway exits, and lampposts near the park. All local large companies, most of whose employees were women, were e-mailed with warnings.
But it seemed like no matter what you did, it was all for nothing. Anyway, there were new victims who either left the man in time when he began suspiciously imposing on them, or were already dead, lying in the bushes, with torn clothes and rope marks on their throats. The bastard lured them with his flattery and pleasant words in order to unalive them later, having previously raped them.
Simon tossed and turned on the bed when you didn't enter the bedroom, even though the front door had slammed shut behind you half an hour ago. He began to get used to the fact that you started coming back later, working for the police in the investigation team, you were involved in many cases. But that last one you couldn't talk to him about was obviously serious.
He found you in the kitchen. You were sitting with your legs tucked under on a chair, with a mug of sickly sweet tea and papers scattered in front of you. There were dots marked on what was obviously a terrain map. Important places? Route stops?
"We'll do an experiment tomorrow." You said, lifting your head and looking at him, already standing behind you. "I'll bait him."
Bait. So you're going to be walking around these marked places, obviously trying to attract the attention of this scumbag who's been killing women for the last six months.
"I'm not gonna tell ya how to do yer job." Simon said, clenching his jaw. "But if he lays his filthy finger on ya, he'll be his last victim."
Because Simon won't stand by if something happens to you.
