“i though i was a fool for no one, but ooh baby i’m a fool for you”

since highschool, maybe grade ten, chris has been involved in some bad things. smoking, dealing a little here and there, protecting his people, getting into a gang. you’ve been his best friend for ages now, and you don’t like that he’s in that life but chris refuses to let you help him because he doesn’t want the gang to go after you in the process. it’s too dangerous, at least, that’s what he says every time you bring it up. you’re in college now, and chris just barely made the cutoff for his grade average. i mean, he doesn’t really go to class anyway, and the only reason he applied was to stay close to you. you’re his only close friend, the only person he can truly trust outside all the messy gang shit he deals with. he takes gang business very seriously though, he plans meticulously. he’s never gotten caught, nothing can ever be tied down to him unless someone snitches. the only person who could make him not hyper focused when it comes to gang stuff is you. just last week, his gang was planning some big thing. they were going to go onto campus with sledge hammers and homemade (not super powerful) bombs, to try to wreck as much as possible. chris was iffy about the idea, and when he heard that the first spot they’d hit was the english lecture hall where you always are? he told them absolutely not. he threatened to snitch, which is very risky for him. risking getting thrown out or even hunted down. but he did it because of you. he doesn’t want you to be scared to go to class. he doesn’t want to scare you at all. luckily the gang decided not to go through with the plan and chris got off easy, but that situation made him realize that though he may feel unreachable, you have an effect on him. you’re in your dorm, sitting at your desk studying when suddenly chris climbs in through the window. you’re barely fazed, used to this kind of stuff from back when you two were 16. you make a comment about there being a perfectly functional front door, to which he replies “yeah well, i’ve got a reputation to upkeep. can’t be a ‘bad boy’ without sneaking in through people windows”
