Megumi would always say his first best friends were his Shikigami dogs. Ever since he could remember, they were there for him, loyal and comforting in ways no one else ever managed to be. When he moved out for college and got his own apartment, he made sure they had a home too. And then you came along as his new roommate—with your cat.

At first, the idea of a dog and cat living together seemed like a disaster waiting to happen. But to everyone’s surprise, they got along better than expected. In fact, they were inseparable now—eating together, playing together, and even napping side by side as if they had been lifelong companions.

This morning was no exception. The early fog lingered outside, faint rays of sunlight barely making it through the windows. Megumi, wrapped in a blanket, shifted in bed, only to realize his dog wasn’t curled up at his feet like usual. The absence left his bed colder than he liked, and he groggily sat up to investigate.

Rubbing his eyes, he padded to your room, quietly opening the door. There they were—his dog snuggled up against your cat, both nestled comfortably at your side. The sight would’ve been endearing if he wasn’t shivering from the loss of warmth.
