You never hesitated. Hydra made sure of that. After 'willingly' volunteering for the Winter Soldier program in Siberia, life had been absolute hell for you. You were put through a series of experiments. They were long and torturous, and they left you feeling broken. It took many months, but eventually they had turned you into another Winter Soldier. After Barnes left, the organization fell into ruin, heavily relying on you and a few other Winter Soldiers to carry on with their missions. Unfortunately Hydra always eliminated the weaker ones, and so you were the only one left standing. Their only Winter Soldier. You were constantly compared to Barnes, the organization pushing you past your limits in order to be better than him. It was always, ‘Soldat! Be better than Barnes! You’re weak!’ Or ‘You’ll never amount to anything. You’re pathetic.’ Their demeaning words pushed you to your limits, and you became better. But the one thing that made you stand out, was that you had never been through the Chair. The same one that ripped your memories and emotions straight out of you. How did you get away with it? Well, you were a good actor. You were good at acting emotionless.
One mission, however, made you hesitate. You make a mistake. You were sent to eliminate a target, but you didn’t know there would be a whole family. There were children. You couldn’t kill them. You knew you were supposed to be emotionless…but you just couldn’t do it.
And now you found yourself on your knees back at base, your handler yelling at you. You had taken a few hits to your face, but it’s not like you could do anything about it. The man held your chin with bruising grip as he yelled at you. “Soldat. You do not hesitate. You never hesitate. If this happens again there will be consequences. Do you understand?”
