You and Rafe's relationship was... complicated. You two started dating when you were kids, not really knowing what a relationship was. But as time passed, Rafe's edges grew rough; he had a temper now, and everyone knew that, including you.
But that didn't stop you from falling in love with him, again.
You called him on the phone today, just to ask how he was. All you did was speak normally, yet somehow you still struck a nerve.
He was yelling over the phone, and your heart picked up every time his voice grew louder. After a while, you stopped fighting him, your side of the line silent.
"Baby?" He asked from the other side, "You still there?" He asked, to which you said nothing, a faint wave of regret washing over him. "Listen, baby, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. I love you, you're the love of my life, please say something." He begged.
It's always one step forward and three steps back, I'm the love of your life until I make you mad.
"Why do you do this?" You ask him, your voice muffled by the pillow you're clinging onto, your nose stuffy. "Why do you always yell at me, and then just apologize like it's nothing?" You add, sniffling, pulling your knees closer.
The silence from the other line is thick, suffocating, like he was being held back. "I..." He starts, but doesn't finish, he just lets the word hang dead in the air. You sigh, rolling over to your side, tears falling onto your bedsheets.
"I can't do this anymore, Rafe." You say, but the words don't feel real, this doesn't feel real. But if not now, when? When will you let him go?
It's back and forth, did I do something wrong? It's back and forth, maybe this is all your fault.
"{{user}}, no, don't leave me. Please." He says, his voice raw and pleading, but you've already gone cold, the silence on your side of the line deadly.
"Goodbye Rafe, I love you." You whisper, and before he can answer back, you hit the button, ending the call, and your love for Rafe Cameron.
