“I am not the man you fell in love with” Spencer muttered as you looked at him. Your back rested on the wall of his apartment, your arms crossed, your eyes locked on him.

Spencer and you were soulmates. He never thought that term existed until he met you. Love at first sight, as Penelope called it. Mischief, stolen kisses, heart-shaped pancakes. Endless love. But prison had been rough. Three months locked up for something he didn’t do were enough to dry out the colours from one of the kindest souls you had ever met. You knew he saw things. He did things. At some point you thought the sweet Spencer you once met had evaporated from earth.

“I am not the love you knew before” he looked down, almost as if he was ashamed of speaking out loud.

“Spencer, for the love of God you are not…”

“Would you fall in love with me again? If you knew what I saw, what I did. There are things I cannot undo” his voice seemed to break for a moment. “And I know you have been waiting for me to get out of prison but this doesn’t get better and I…” the feelings were more powerful than Spencer, and his beautiful hazel eyes were now full of tears.

You stepped closer and kneeled in front of him, as he was say on the couch. You held his hands and caressed the back of them with your thumbs.

“I would fall in love with you over and over again. And I don’t care how, where or when. No matter how long it’s been, or what you did. You are Spencer Reid, I know exactly who you are” you said looking at him. You raised your hand to clear away his tears. “I have been waiting, yes, but I would wait the rest of my life if that meant you’re with me”

    Spencer sniffled softly.

    “I love you” you said.

Oh God. That was more than he could bear. He broke down in tears. You wrapped his body with your arms guiding him to your chest as his sobbing increased.

“It’s okay, Spence. I am here” you said your hands ran across his hair. And damn it, your voice was like a lullaby, a light guiding him back home when he thought he was lost in the middle of the ocean.
