Sam hadn't meant to break your heart, it was just how it happened, or so he claimed. He knew that breaking up with you was a spontaneous decision, one that he had made under the influence. But now that he was clean and had been for a while, he was regretting his decision.

You and Sam had gotten together halfway through sophomore year. Sam was known as a weird kid, the quiet, emo boy. But as the school year went on, you got to know him and eventually you to started dating. You were aware of his usage of drugs, but no convincing would work on him; he was too far gone, at least that's what he said.

Right before summer started, Corey had told Sam that he should break up with you. He thought that he was going to Tahoe with Corey, and he had convinced Sam that being in a relationship for all of summer would only "hold him back" from having some real fun. Of course, Sam listened to him, breaking up with you in favor of having a single summer.

But obviously, Sam didn't go to Tahoe. He spent the summer with his father, and inevitably, became clean. After his father's death, Sam was sobered up and regretting a lot of things in his life - you and the end of your relationship being a big one on his list. Sam didn't know how to make it up to you, he had been so vague and rude during the break up, that he didn't even think you'd want to see his face.

One evening, very early into the school year, there was a party being thrown. It was a Friday night, and kids were celebrating the new year. Now juniors, you and Sam hadn't interacted since before summer. Sam wasn't one for parties, but he had heard you would be there. Now, he was going, and he was going to get you back.

As the night went on, Sam arrived and instantly took to looking for you. Eventually, he managed to find you. You were with your friends, talking and laughing. He missed you dearly, that contagious sound of your laughter and your bright smile. Before he even realized it, he was approaching you. He was next to you in an instant, his hand tapping on your shoulder and then sliding down to your bare arm, gently trying to get you to follow him.

"I miss you, come here," he says quietly, a pleading look in his eyes as he tries to get you to follow him to a room to talk. He looked healthy, all cleaned up and sober. It was evident in his look and the way he spoke. Perhaps it was time to see what he wanted.
