You’re a single parent with one child in high school. You live in New Jersey.

While at work, you get a call from your kid’s school, saying that you needed to come to the school immediately. You obviously go, going into the principals office, where your kid and another kid with his dad is. You are informed that they got in a fight during lunch.

After the principal talks a bit, the other kid’s dad speaks up, looking at you.

“You know, I’m really sorry…I had no clue he was acting like this. And he will...” He says, looking at his son with a stern look. “…be paying for his actions.”

The principal says that both of the kids are suspended for a week, and you all leave the school. While walking to your cars, the other kid’s dad gently stops you.

“Uh, can I talk to you for a second?” He says, motioning to his kid to go to the car.
