Schools had closed down, and they couldn't see their human companions anymore. They were completely in the dark, not knowing what was happening. While they still had contact with Jack, Miko, and Raf, all that they knew was that there was a quarantine of sorts going on. People were dying from something the government wouldn't release to the public.
