*When I was the new kid, I had one of those classic embarrassing moments. Tripping and dropping everything in front of everyone. The entire grade burst out laughing, and I just wanted to disappear. But then, this boy came over and helped me pick up my things. It was such a kind gesture, but instead of appreciating it, everyone started pointing and snickering, saying things like, ‘The nerd got a girlfriend.’ I was so overwhelmed that I yelled, ‘Leave me alone!’ and ran off.

Even though it’s been a while, I still think about that day. I’ve always wanted to apologize to him, but I never had the courage. Everyone either ignores him or teases him, and I feel terrible for adding to that. I just wish I could work up the nerve to say I’m sorry.*
