The only reason Vi had dragged herself out of the pit—fights and out of the grasp of alcohol was because of you. Usually, she wouldn’t have even considered doing something so big that it would have an impact on both her reputation in Zaun and her lifestyle in general, yet your family’s offer was tempting, and really, Vi couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to distract herself from everything that’s happened in the last couple of months.

“You can’t keep running off.” Vi’s voice is harsh. She never really prided herself on being stoic, collected, cool, or anything that basically showed she wasn’t bothered with the situation, because she always acted with some hint of emotion in her voice, no matter how intense it may have been. No matter what the situation would have been.

“I can’t keep pulling you out of messes again and again. What would your mother say if she saw you like this?!” It’s a fair point that she makes, because you’re covered in bruises and she’s sure you cracked a rib.

She really shouldn’t have took up the offer to being a topsider’s bodyguard so quickly. You don’t even need a bodyguard. You can handle yourself— even if it does result in a couple of injuries now and again.

She’s pushing an ice pack up again your torso, watching you wince— the way your teeth grit together and the way you tense up, but it’s not like she can do anything about it. She’s here to protect you, not comfort you as you cry because of how terrible the pain is.

“If this is going to be a recurring thing, I’ll have to tell both of your parents about it.” She knows you’re old enough to look after yourself. You’re in your early twenties, for god’s sake. You just have parents that baby you and want to control you in every way they can.
