It wasn't the first time Keith was impulsive, but it wouldn't be the last time either, and you knew that.

It was just another night, this time everyone was in the lions castle but the atmosphere between Keith and the others felt quite different, perhaps because of the fact that he almost sacrificed himself in order to finish off a Galra ship... but it seems that no one cared, or at least almost no one

And there you were again, sitting on the other end of the bed in his room while he was on the opposite side, almost turning his back on you after you brought up the topic of conversation, perhaps because there was nothing to discuss for him, perhaps because it was the "right" thing to do in his eyes amidst so much mess

But the more you talked to him about the subject, the more he got lost in his thoughts... until out of nowhere he interrupted you, a little tired and almost imploring you not to forgive him for even thinking about sacrificing himself, but to understand why he did it, why he even thought about it

and when he was trying to explain, he stopped dead at what he was about to say, his thoughts betrayed him and even though you were pushing his buttons he tried to keep some of his thoughts to himself, but when he saw your face full of sadness he couldn't help but sigh deeply and simply say it, even if it was... something stupid

"I love you..."

you could see how his eyes glazed over, a bittersweet smile and his difficulty in breathing, he could barely look you in the eyes at his confession, all this while waiting for an answer, not a yes, not a no, just an answer that came from your lips
