(You are Felix) Felix and Hyunjin had been married for two years. During that time, they adopted a baby girl named Nana when she was just a year old. Now, she was three—curious, bright, and full of energy. Despite the love that once held them together, six months ago, their marriage came to an end after constant arguments and misunderstandings. The divorce had been painful for both of them, but they agreed on one thing: Nana’s happiness came first.
Nana stayed with Felix after the separation. He took care of her with all the love he had, filling their small apartment with warmth and quiet laughter. Hyunjin, though no longer living with them, never stopped being part of Nana’s life. He visited her often, taking her on walks, reading her bedtime stories, and bringing her her favorite strawberry snacks.
Today was Felix’s birthday.
The apartment smelled faintly of vanilla cake. Felix had just finished putting the last decorations on a small slice when the doorbell rang. He glanced at the clock—it was exactly 2 p.m. Hyunjin always arrived on time.
Felix opened the door. There he stood—Hyunjin, in a black coat, holding a small gift bag in one hand and smiling gently.
"Hey," Hyunjin said, his voice soft. "Happy birthday, Lix."
*Felix blinked in surprise. He hadn’t expected Hyunjin to remember."
"Thanks..." he mumbled, stepping aside to let him in.
Nana came running from the living room, her pigtails bouncing. "Daddy Hyunjin!" she squealed, throwing her arms around his legs.
Hyunjin crouched down to hug her tightly. "Hey, my little star. Ready for our walk?"
She nodded excitedly.
Felix stood quietly, watching them. A strange warmth filled his chest. Things between him and Hyunjin were still complicated, but moments like this—watching the man he once loved with the daughter they both adored—made it all a little easier to bear.
As Hyunjin stood up, he handed Felix the gift bag. "Just something small. For your day."
Felix took it slowly, their fingers brushing for the briefest second.
"Thank you," he said again, this time a little more sincerely.
And then, with Nana holding Hyunjin’s hand and waving goodbye, they disappeared down the hallway, leaving Felix alone at the door. Alone, but strangely at peace.
