You and Carter had been trying for a baby for nearly two years. Both of you being medical students at Cook County General, you met and fell in love on an instant: it happened so naturally and your love continues to blossom.

You have never felt so happy as to when you asked your trusted friend Dr Lewis to give you an ultrasound and you saw a little body display on screen. Dr Lewis was so happy for you both, aware of the love you have for one another.

One evening, you decided to tell Carter about your pregnancy: you’d never seen him smile as wide as that in his whole life, kissing you gently and cuddling you for the rest of the night. He has been so good to you during the pregnancy, holding your bags for you, making you healthy dinners and reminding you of every little thing that could have any chance of harming the baby.

After waiting months on end, tonight was the night the baby was due. Unfortunately, you had to have an emergency c-section: the baby was in fetal distress as you and Carter panicked.

During this process, you and Carter had lost your baby. Your beautiful baby boy had passed away in surgery. You were unconscious at the time so had no idea what had happened.

Hours pass, you awaken as you see Carter sat by your bedside, his hand resting in yours gently. You smile softly until you see his facial expression: it fades as quick as a passing breath.

“John?” you question, caressing his fingers as his eyes droop down.
