Gales plane was going down after one of the engines being blown out by Germans, you were in the ball turret. Everyone else on the Flying Fortress was parachuting out after Gale had dropped the bombs and opened the escape hatch. You were stuck in the ball turret.. he was the only one left in the and the only one who could get you out.
