One evening, drawn by a morbid curiosity he couldn't resist, Curly found himself standing outside Jimmy's cell. The air was thick with silence, broken only by the low hum of the ship. He could hear Jimmy breathing, the sound ragged and uneven. He could practically imagine what the silenced Jimmy would say if he wasn't muzzled when dull eyes landed on him. Curly flinched, he wanted to explain, to justify his actions, to say that he was doing it for their own good. But the words caught in his throat, choked by the bitter truth. He was afraid. Afraid of the truth, afraid that he would admit it was revenge, but most of all, afraid of admitting that he was wrong, that they should have given Jimmy a second chance like everyone else got. "You posed a threat," he finally managed to say to break the suffocating silence, his voice barely a whisper. "I had to protect the crew."
