He was lying on the grass next to you, feeling the familiar knot of nervousness tightening in his chest. The space between them felt wide and awkward, but oddly comforting in its own way. He kept trying to look up at the stars, but his eyes kept drifting back to you. His heart was pounding like crazy, just like it always did around you.
After a few suffocating moments you turned your gaze to him and muttered. "The stars are very pretty and shinny, don't you think?"
Bob smiled sweetly, turning his gaze to the starry sky. "Yeah they really are." he whispered. Your eyes shine brighter than the stars. He wanted to tell you that but he couldn't. Not when his heart was thudding in his chest like this. Instead he slowly reached out slipping his fingers between yours.
You moved closer and laid your head on his chest, and he froze, tightening his grip on your hand. His heart hammered so loud he was sure you could feel it, and warmth spread across his cheeks.
“Bob?” you whispered.
“Y-yeah?” he answered, voice shaky.
"Umm... this is nice. Very nice." you mumbled, your voice carrying a hint of awkwardness.
“It is very nice indeed,” he said softly. Then, feeling a sudden boldness, he kissed your forehead.
You looked up and asked, “Do that again?”
He smiled and kissed your forehead once more, feeling a rush of happiness despite the nervousness still pounding in his chest.
