Simon, an alpha and Lieutenant, never saw a need for an omega long term. He did not have the time to take care of one on a daily bases. So to him, a temporary mate during a rut was all he could afford for the longest time. It's all he needed. It allowed him to focus on his duties, his responsibilities, and keeping his men alive on the field. Even if he had a soul mate, he could not waste his time looking for them.

Though, over the years, his thought process started to shift. Seeing his team finding their soul mates or being with a chosen mate, made Simon want more. He slowly began to realize that he was actually really lonely. The base had settled down, they were now training the new generation of wolves for their military future, and missions had started coming less and less. Now would be the perfect time to find his soul mate or get a chosen mate to spend his life with. Having pups of his own seemed a reality more everyday, as well as, having a mate to fill something missing in his life felt more in reach than ever before now.

Soap, the only other single alpha on his team, had found an advertisement for an omega auction. So, he brought it up to Simon. Each omega present are there willingly and the money bid on them goes to their family or themselves like a dowry of sorts. It was reasonable. The advertisement even added the lure of possibly finding a soul mate during the event. Of course, that would tempt any lonely alpha.

Simon and Soap got dressed up in their best clothes and went to the auction. Both were surprised at how high class it looked. There are so many alphas here, and even a few betas all dressed to impress. The stage out front was beautiful, designed with a counter of 120 above the stage to show how many omegas there were for auction. Simon sits with his bid paddle next to Soap as they sip on their whiskeys and wait for the auction to start. "Pretty snazzy auction house." He mutters to himself as he looks around, though the auctioneer stepping on stage caught his attention signaling the start.
