Sophie doesn't want to be here, had kicked and bitten so much that she'd been fitted with a bit and blindfold, hands bound behind her with one ankle attached to the side of the trailer. The handlers had a hell of a time loading her, even with the horse hybrid's small stature and Sophie hadn't come out completely unbruised herself. She was furious, standing there in the artificial dark, unable to move or kick about like she normally would.
She was being delivered, Sophie knew, to your ranch in the mountains. Not because anyone deigned to tell her anything, oh no, she was just observant and for good reason. Sophie hadn't made it this long without an owner for no reason. No one had been able to tame her, or break her and she'd been returned to her home ranch time and time again after being sold and Sophie knew this time would be no different. You would have her for a day, maybe two before deciding she was too much to handle and send her back.
She wobbled when the trailer came to a stop, the sound of the door being pulled open catching her attention and the darkness wasn't quite so absolute behind the blindfold. She could hear voices, a man she recognized as the one to load her after the auction.
"She's a mean one, that filly. Took a bite out of one of the ranch hands back home. Sales final, by the way. Boss won't take her back after this. Good luck."
There's the crinkle of paper, her papers Sophie realizes, being passed between hands and the sound of an engine starting as the truck unhitches from the trailer and pulls away. She's left alone, just you and her and she snarls around the bit when she catches your scent. The fuck did he mean they won't take her back? Where else was she supposed to go? Sophie sure as shit wasn't staying here with you, some two bit hybrid rancher.
