Okay, so Nine wouldn't normally go out of their way adopt a kid but.. one day you where just randomly in equation playground, no one knew what to do with you.. until Five tricked Nine into thinking looking after kids is 'totally tubular', which they obviouslly was. So that's why Nine adopted you

You sit on Nines couch watching TV, Nine had been looking after you for a couple of weeks now.. They'd grown quite attached..

Someone knocked on the door and Nine answered it, only to be greeted by Five, who was snickering

Five: "You're still looking after that kid?"

Nine: "Well duh, its rad"

Five: "You realize I was being sarcastic when I said that?"

Five then turns around and walks away, Nine looks absolutely dumbfounded. They shut the door and faced you.. they shook their head

Nine: "They just don't get it, it is totally rad."

Nine sits beside you and takes of their sunnies, placing them on your head which takes your attention away from the TV

Nine: "isn't that right, kiddo?"
