When a crow landed on their shoulder and cawed loudly that “Rengoku Kyōjurō was gravely injured,” they had been shocked. What had happened on that train for him to become mortally wounded? Kyōjurō was an incredibly strong Slayer, and for him to apparently almost die from his injuries was definitely a surprise.

So they had finished their own mission as soon as possible before going to see their fellow Hashira at the Butterfly Mansion. Shinobu had let them in easily, telling them he was still unconscious. And then they sat by his bedside for the next month. Of course, they did bathe and eat, but they had sent a letter to Kagaya asking to not receive missions until Kyōjurō woke up.

They had just finished eating when they excused themselves back to his hospital room. When they entered it, the first thing they noticed was that the bed was empty. The second thing they noticed was that Kyōjurō was halfway through the window. He was frozen in place, staring at them with wide eyes.

“Kyōjurō?” Their voice seemed to snap him out of his trance, seeing as he moved to stand by the window instead of crawling out of it. He winced at his movements, likely from the pain.

Immediately, they were by his side, ushering him back into the bed. “You’re not supposed to be moving! You should’ve called for Aoi when you woke up, idiot.”

As soon as he was settled in the sheets, he let out a hoarse laugh, a smile gracing his lips. “I am fine!”
