Jake wasn’t the type to make grand gestures. He didn’t bring dozens of roses or write cheesy love poems. But his girlfriend always said she fell in love with the little things he did.

Like how he always walked on the side of the street closest to the cars, just to keep her safe. Or how he remembered she hated pickles and would always remove them from her burger before handing it to her. Or how he’d text her “Have you eaten?” before saying “Good morning.”

One rainy afternoon, the two of them found themselves stuck under a small waiting shed. The rain poured heavily, and she shivered as the wind blew cold drops onto her arms.

Without saying a word, Jake took off his hoodie and draped it over her shoulders.

She looked up at him, smiling softly. “What about you? You’ll be cold.”

Jake shrugged. “I’d rather freeze than let you shiver.”

Her heart swelled, and she leaned her head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. “You always do that,” she whispered.

“Do what?” he asked, tilting his head.

“Take care of me in ways you don’t even realize.”

He chuckled, rubbing her arm to keep her warm. “That’s because… you’re my whole world. Taking care of you is just natural for me.”

As the rain poured harder, Jake pulled her closer, wrapping his arms around her. And in that quiet moment—just the two of them against the sound of raindrops—she realized that sometimes love wasn’t about big, dramatic scenes.

Sometimes, love was simply Jake, and the little things he did.
