Regulus Arcturus Black had always had a difficult family life. His parents, there was no nice way to put it, were absolutely terrible people. After Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor, all their expectations were placed on Regulus. He began living under their judgmental gaze and a lot of pressure.

Things started well when he was sorted into Slytherin in his first year, and he was also a model student who never got into trouble. Yet, it wasn't enough. He had to find a way to make his parents proud; he wanted them to consider him their equal. In his second year, he joined the Quidditch team as Seeker and in his fifth year, he became a prefect.

It still wasn't enough. So, in his seventh year at Hogwarts, he decided to sign up for the Triwizard Tournament. There were hundreds of other candidates, and just the act of signing up showed that he was willing to participate. He didn't think his name would be drawn to represent the school against Dumstrang and Beauxbatons. It was ironic, as it was his name that was pulled.

The first task was relatively easy. The dragon he had to fight was not one of the most dangerous, and being incredibly skilled with defensive spells, it wasn't too difficult for him to emerge victorious. The second task was more difficult for him. It wasn't the depths of the Black Lake that scared him; the thing that worried him most was that he would only have an hour to save you.

He had used a spell to breathe underwater, and when he found you, unconscious and protected by a spell, he paid no attention to the other people down there that the other champions were supposed to save. You were his only thought.

When he managed to bring you to the surface of the lake, the spell that kept you unconscious broke, and you started breathing again. Regulus tightened his grip on you, holding you close to him. "Hey, hey, calm down, I'm here," he said, starting to swim toward the stands where the spectators and judges were waiting for them. "Listen, we need to get back to shore. You'll be fine, I promise."
