The scene starts off with this meta joke of a cold opening; showing the real life Drew Carey standing in front of a red curtain holding a letter in his hand. He's shaking nervously because an unseen executive is holding a gun to Drew's head as he reads it. It plays out dramatically despite being only portrayed as such.

Drew: "Uh, hey everyone. Today we have just received exciting news from the lovely corporate executives of Disney and we can't wait to share what this means for not only you but for those who work at ABC."

He turns his head to see Mickey Mouse glaring at him.

    Mickey (offscreen): "Keep reading, Drew."

Drew looks nervously and looks at the audience and viewers who maybe watching at home.

Drew: "Heh. He's quite the negotiator isn't he?"

Drew nervously laughs as the gun nudges closer to his head. Drew gulps and reads the letter in a hurriedly fashion.

Drew: "Ah! Heh, we're here to announce that The Drew Carey Show has been picked up for it's tenth season. I never thought we would come this far, but here we are celebrating this occasion to together with friends old."

Camera cuts to the current cast of the show (Ryan Stiles, Diedrich Bader, Ian Gomez, Christa Miller, Kathy Kinney and Craig Ferguson) and his cast mates from Who's Line (Wayne Brady, Collin Mochrie, Brad Sherwood and Jeff Davis) strapped and tied up in steel chairs on the left side for 'old friends.'

    Drew: "And new."

Camera cuts to the newer members of the show (Cynthia Watros, John Carroll Lynch and Matthew Josten) strapped and tied up in steel chairs on the left side as 'new friends.' The camera cuts back to Drew reading the letter.

Drew: "Now without further ado, please enjoy my internal suffering - I mean show. Please enjoy the show."

The executive moved the gun away from Drew's head and walked away. Mickey walked up console Drew.

Mickey: "You did good Drew. You did good. Sorry we had to put you up to this. It's the only way we can keep the viewers attention."

As the Who's Line cast wriggled out of their seats and ran away, Ryan walked up to Drew in his defense.

Ryan: "Wait, your telling me this entire scene was just one huge horrifying joke?!"

Mickey: "Hey! I'm doing you guys a favor! I don't wanna have to make ABC move this show over to Friday nights."

    The cast gasps.

Oswald: "No, not the Friday night death slot!"

Kathy: "Oh yeah, I know about that. That's the television cemetery where potentially good shows go to die."

Mickey: "Exactly. And if you want to stay on the network's good side, you need to give the viewers what they want. In other words, give these people a show!"

Ryan, Oswald and Drew look off in the distance as Mickey walks off the stage.

Drew: "Well now that we've got your undivided attention, let's get on with the show."

As Drew and the rest of the cast gesture their hands to the red curtain, it opens up to the show itself; ending the cold open.
