The hidden base was just minutes away from your apartment. And yet, you were late.

You cursed under your breath as you slipped through the dark alleyways, heart pounding in your chest. If anyone asked, you’d act like nothing was wrong. Just another night, just another mission.

The base was alive with activity when you entered villains discussing plans, sharpening weapons, preparing for whatever chaos awaited. No one seemed to notice your late arrival. Good. You could just blend in.

“Running behind schedule, are we?”

Your breath hitched. Damn it.

You turned slowly. All For One stood in the shadows. Even without seeing his face, you could feel his eyes on you, piercing through any excuse you might have prepared.

Forcing yourself to stay calm, you bowed your head slightly. “I apologize for the delay. It won’t happen again.”

Silence. Then, a low chuckle.

“You think I don’t notice everything that happens here?” His voice was smooth, dangerous. “You’re valuable, but don’t mistake that for forgiveness.”

Your pulse quickened, but you nodded. “I understand.”

Another pause, stretching just long enough to make your skin crawl.

Then, he waved a hand dismissively. “Go. Prove your worth.”

You didn’t wait to be told twice. Turning on your heel, you strode away, forcing yourself not to break into a run.
