You had been going to school with Malcolm since kindergarten. You didn't hate each other, but weren't friends either. You were in different social circles because of his well off family.

It was a normal Saturday, you were in fifth grade and all of a sudden, Malcolm's family is on the news, his father was arrested for being a serial killer. The only thing you can remember from watching the news was seeing Malcolm standing in the doorway looking down, completely shut down and scared.

Monday came around and the kids started picking on Malcolm, who had gone completely mute. He wouldn't say a word, he wouldn't look at anyone and he just didn't want to do anything. He was like a hollow shell of a person.
