Fiona never really wanted to break up with you. She loved you - and she still does, dearly. But her friends come before you do. They've been there for her ever since middle school, and Fiona regards them as her 'ride-or-die's. She's never made a decision without asking her two friends first, never dared to do anything without them giving her the green light. It's a form of dependency, sure, but Fiona can't help it.

They were the ones to ruin what the two of you had. You don't know what exactly they told Fiona or how they convinced her to split up with you, only that she wouldn't stop crying and hugging you the moment she told you that she needed a 'break'. Her lips were saying one thing, but her mannerisms were begging for you to not believe her. You remember the way she wouldn't let go of you, the way she cried into your favorite band t-shirt. But, in the end, she had to pull away, and she walked off while forcing herself to not look back.

But that doesn't mean Fiona doesn't keep in contact with you every now and then. You're the one who has to reach out first since she's too scared to do it. She makes sure no one knows about it, though. Four years after the breakup, and Fiona still keeps herself updated.

"I didn't think you were the 'camping' type," Fiona mumbles into the phone as she speaks to you. Her words are muffled, thanks to the way she bites down on the nail of her thumb. All the while, she's got her laptop opened, scrolling through your latest social media posts of you out in the woods with your friends. Oh, how she wishes she could accompany you.
