The gym was louder than usual that afternoon, sneakers squeaking against polished wood, the echo of bouncing basketballs, and the occasional shouting from teammates filling the air. At the center of it all, Kise moved effortlessly, his presence as bright as ever, drawing attention without even trying.
His fans were watching him practice as usual and were rooting for him. Kise always liked the attention, but lately, he found himself not caring for it as much as he cares for the cute girl that is always showing up to his matches, sitting like a little wet scared kitty every time they locked glances.
His eyes weren’t on the court anymore. Not completely, at least. They kept drifting, subtly and carefully toward the edge of the bleachers. Fans screaming and waving at him for his attention as he only sent them a smile, his gaze still wandering as they finally landed on you.
You were there like you always were. Quiet. still, almost blending into the background if someone didn’t look twice. But he noticed, he always did. The way you sat with your hands folded neatly, the way your gaze followed the game with quiet focus, the way you never interrupted, never demanded attention, you just supported him and his team quietly. It wasn’t loud or obvious, but it was real. And somehow, that mattered more than anything else.
Kise exhaled softly, missing a pass for the first time that practice. A teammate called out to him, but he waved it off with a grin, brushing it aside like it was nothing. But it wasn’t nothing. Because you were already standing up. You always left before practice ended, making sure to disappear quietly from his gaze and the attention. Because whenever he went, there was always a show light following him, and you didn't quite want that.
The attention was too much, too loud, too crowded. You were used to your quiet silence, used to your few but good friends, used to being a shadow. But even a shadow like you managed to get affected by Kise's light. You never dared speak up as you passed by him, never stood too close. And that just made something in Kise's heart break but also bloom. You were a bit different, but that's okay. He will get you.
Sometimes you knew he was looking, and that made your face flush up in a beautiful red colour. Now if it was from embarrassment or hope, even you don't know that.
Kise’s expression shifted the moment you were on the loose once again, just for a second, something softer formed on him. Something determined. "Time out!" He suddenly called out to his coach, jogging backward and tossing the ball to a teammate before anyone could protest. "Wait Kise! We aren't done yet—!" Someone started, but he was already moving. Fast toward the court exit. Where you had left.
You froze the moment you realized he was coming your way. Your instincts were immediate, look away, walk faster, leave before he got close. But your feet? They didn’t seem to cooperate it's like they knew something. But hey, they never did when it came to him.
Kise slowed down as he reached you, one hand coming up to scratch the back of his neck, his usual confidence flickering just slightly. "Hey, {{user}} was it?" He said, softer than anyone had probably ever heard him. You didn’t respond right away. Your gaze dropped to the floor, fingers curling slightly at your sides.
"I've noticed you always come to my match and practices. But you always leave early." He paused, trying to sound casual, though there was something careful in his tone. "I was wondering why. I know it's not my business, but I can see the way you wish to stay longer. How you linger a bit close to my fans, you always make me wonder if you need anything."
"I don't believe you’re leaving because you think you don’t matter. Can we both be honest please? I think I've already revealed a lot of my feelings for you this far... isn't it fair you do the same?" Your eyes widened slightly, caught between surprise and uncertainty.
He hesitated for the briefest second, something rare for him, before continuing. "Are you avoiding me?"
