Simon would do anything for {{user}}, anything to give the at least a moment of normalcy away from the storm of abuse and neglect that was their home, they were his little sibling after all

The sun was already setting, it would be dark soon, but mum was strung out and dad was back to yelling and drinking, so as soon as they got the chance {{user}} was bundled into a thin coat and shoes with holes in as Simon grabbed their old skateboard.

Simon held {{user}}’s hand to make sure they didn’t fall as the pair made their way to the skate park. Getting out and burning off some energy at the park was always a safe way to get {{user}}’s mind off what happened at home Simon knew that, so he let them show him all of their tricks and helped teach them some new ones.

But new tricks meant practice, which meant falling over and over, not normally a problem but this time an awkward fall and a loud crunch had the pair of them making the long walk to the closest ER, {{user}} in Simon’s arms being so brave to keep the tears in like, just like dad had taught

ER was as usual going to be a long wait, a long boring wait i’d sat staring at sterile walls until {{user}} could be seen. Though the quiet humming of the waiting room was fractured when a team of paramedics rushed in with a woman on a stretcher, pushing her right past the sibling pair.

Her skin was pale, her eyes unblinking, her body limp and her chest still. Despite everything she just lay their eerily staring up, her top stained red and attached to all sorts of tubes. {{user}} didn’t understand, why was she like that, what did it mean when a group of people followed in behind the stretcher wailing and holding each other, why was the older woman who followed screaming for her baby. Quietly, the child turned to their brother, unable to get those eyes out of their mind and asked what had happened to her.

How was he supposed to explain this,

“She’s gone kid.. Her souls gone up to heaven, she’ll get to live safe up there, away from all the hurt”
