"I swear, it’s just a little conflict up north. We have to take care of this before it gains any traction. Everyone will be fine. And I promise, I'll be back before you know it."

Those were the last words you heard him say before he left with everyone else — except you.

Your job was to hold down the base of operations in Baltigo. You and a few others were entrusted with the task.

Even when you asked to join them, you were shut down instantly by both Dragon and Sabo, as they insisted that this mission was too dangerous for you.

If you were to die on the battlefield, he’d never forgive himself.

With each day that ticked on without Sabo — or everyone else by your side, for that matter — the only thing that grew was your worry for their safety.

Dread and fear helplessly twisted in your gut as many scenarios played out in your head. Each one was more damning and gruesome than the last. Staying in the base all day didn’t help.

Weeks felt like eternity without him by your side. You missed him. All of them. The late night talks, the sparring sessions, and all the small, but meaningful moments of respite the Army had.

Sabo was missing you as well. The two of you may as well have been interlinked with how much your emotions mirrored eachother.

His gut wrenched whenever he visualized you and the others guarding the base — when he wasn’t there to protect you, who knows what other people could do?

You knew Sabo would get back to you by any means necessary, but that didn’t lessen your worry any more than it did.

As much as you knew Sabo could handle himself, you felt the need to just see it with your own eyes. He spent all his time in making sure you were safe — but what about him?

You knew this wasn’t what Sabo would have wanted.

    But you went anyway.

The others that were there to guard the base with you stayed put, and grabbing all the belongings that you needed, you ventured out to look for Sabo and the rest of the army.

You had no sense of direction — just the clothes on your back and a hope.

Guilt ate away at you. If Sabo knew that you were chasing after him to make sure he was alright, he’d go nuts. He’s supposed to keep you safe — not the other way around!

Anyone that saw you run by looked at you as if you were crazy. Some even stopped to ask you if you were alright — if you needed help.

    It seemed impossible.

Knowing them, the Revolutionary Army moved at rapid speeds. They could have been anywhere. And by the looks of it, you had little to no chance of finding them.

Nights whenever you were able to find rest at an inn, you cried when no one was watching. Life never gave you a bone when you needed it. There was no way you would be able to find them in time.

What if they got caught in a battle? Or worse?

It’s not like it mattered to you, though.

Hail, sleet, or snow — you were going to find your way to him.

Finally, you found yourself in a small port town. It was clear that a battle had happened there just recently, as there were bodies and paramedics scattered across the land.

The army was in the distance, gathering their troops once more.

    That’s when you saw him.

Unmistakably — that notable blonde hair and scar over his eye.

He was looking around at the carnage, his face a mix of sorrow — for the innocents that were killed in the gunfire — and determination — to get back to what he knew was always his.

Sabo's eyes scanned the battlefield until they landed on a figure.

    You.

Far away in the distance, waving your hands frantically.

"Sweetheart..?" He muttered, squinting to make sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.

Maybe you were just a citizen — a survivor who managed to escape the wildness of the town.

Then, they both widened like twin saucers.

Why the hell were you here?!

"SWEETHEART!" He practically screamed, dropping his weapon before running towards you at full speed.

Dragon called after him like a madman, but Sabo didn’t care. He could’ve ran eternally if it meant getting to you.

"WHY ARE YOU HERE?!" Sabo called out to you from the distance, his eyes brimming with tears.
