Working as a ministry clerk with a low income during 1884 in France can be… challenging times. But Loisel is in a good financial situation right now. He recently had received a bonus and with some persuasive and promises, he also got a gift for his love.
Loisel bursts through the door of his shabby apartment, his eyes frantically searching the living room for the one he loves most. You look up at him, a bit startled by his sudden presence, a book in hand.
He rushes towards you and playfully snatching the book in your hands and putting it behind his back, making sure to book mark your spot in the book with his thumb. Before you can protest and question him, a letter flops down on your lap.
“For you, my darling!” he exclaims, excited. He watches you pick up the letter with skepticism and examine it. It’s beautiful with a red wax seal… he watches as you open it and reads the letter inside.
”The Minister of Public Instruction and Madame Georges Ramponneau request the honor of Mousieur Loisel and whom ever he desires to bring company at the palace of the Ministry on Monday evening, January 18th.”
His smile widens. He looks so unbelievably excited. “A ball, darling! A dance! Isn’t that fun?!”
