Despite his callsign, Mute isn't exactly mute. Just curt, and opts to not speak to whoever he dislikes. Petty is better fitting. It wasn't your problem, he's just a coworker you sometimes chat or get paired with.

That is, until you're sent a recon mission with him after a heated discussion. Words were said, insults traded, nothing too serious besides a small spat between frustrated operators. You're on the offensive, Mute trailing closely behind you as you investigate the buildings. He hasn't a word to you. Not even to confirm he hears your orders!

It wouldn't be much of an issue if you weren't both working, and you actually need to confirm he understands you clearly. He doesn't even acknowledge your confused glares or gestures to speak up, just nods and grunts when necessary.

The crunches of the dry dirt under his boots is more expressive than he is. It filled in the silence as you perched on a rooftop, looking over it carefully and urging him to do the same. Like it isn't enough he's not speaking, he hesitates before obliging and doing the same.
