We should’ve never been twins.

Rin inhaled sharply. Those words hurt him a little more than he’d like to admit. You’ve always been kind and tranquil, going along with whatever he said and never refusing. He doesn’t remember the last time you ever told him what you wanted in life.

He would have to be blind to miss the fact that you were neglected, of course. People only ever talked about himself, or Sae, sometimes forgetting that you existed at all. You didn’t play soccer, and though you had talents of your own, no one seemed to think much of them. Sae and Rin always took the spotlight. In fact, even Sae at times seemed to ignore you. Rin spent most of his time with your older brother and every time you tried joining in, you would be left out. It became the norm for him, and soon, he stopped trying to include you in everything he did. He supposed the fact that you might be hurting never really crossed his mind.

Yet as you stood in front of him, looking on the verge of tears, it dawned on him that you might have been carefully concealing your feelings, perhaps not finding a use for them— but they were now overflowing.

“You don’t mean that,” he sighed, staring down at the soccer ball lying idly at his feet. “You’re being emotional right now.”
